Camp Efigenio C Navarro, Calapan City-The Yuletide Season is the merriest season of the year. The Philippines, being a Christian nation, celebrates Christmas and New Year all over the country. The Filipino families get together for reunion, gift giving and parties. The Catholic Church conducts the “Simbang Gabi”. There are active economic activities in the markets, bazaars, malls and other business/shopping establishments. There is also influx of people to urban areas. The movement of people in any mode of transportation increase which results in the congestion of roads, terminals, airports and seaports. The season also marks the end of the year and   the entry of New Year, which everyone celebrates and welcomes through firecrackers and pyrotechnics.

While everyone is enjoying, lawless elements also do their business of victimizing people. The threat of terrorist groups is also of great consideration. The collateral damage of firecrackers is not discounted, to include the risk brought about by the illegal discharge of firearms.

To ensure the public safety during the said celebration, PCSUPT WILBEN M MAYOR, Regional Director ordered all the Provincial Directors and City Director to maximize their deployment of personnel in the streets to include those secluded places to prevent crimes from happening during Christmas and New Year. The anti-crime campaign of PRO MIMAROPA was already heightened bringing down police presence in various public places particularly in churches. Also, Public Assistance Centers (PAC) was already established in seaports, transit terminals and tourist spots. Likewise, intensified intelligence efforts in coordination with AFP, other law enforcement agencies, and local government units will be conducted to identify probable violators including those involve to the indiscriminate and illegal discharge of firearms by government and civilian gunholders.

PRO MIMAROPA had also tapped the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs), Local Government Units, Law Enforcement Agencies and other Government Agencies to assist the PNP in providing public assistance and traffic management in major thoroughfares regionwide.

PCSUPT MAYOR encourages the public to be vigilant and observant in their environment and to report the suspected items and untoward circumstances to the nearest police station. Further, he assures that the men and women of PRO MIMAROPA will do their job to ensure the public safety during the said celebration.
