Camp BGen Efigenio C Navarro, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – Police Regional Office MIMAROPA Director Police Brigadier General SIDNEY SULTAN HERNIA lauded the voluntary surrender of two former members of the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, and the recovery of explosives and subversive documents in Puerto Princesa City on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
Puerto Princesa City Police Office Director Police Colonel ROBERTO M BUCAD revealed that “Ka Tes,” 45, and “Ka Raffy,” 36, who both hail from Puerto Princesa City, voluntarily surrendered to the elements of City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) led by PLTCOL VICTOR LACWASAN in Sitio Inonokan, Brgy. Concepcion of the said city at around 6:30 PM.
PCOL BUCAD said that the surrender of “Ka Tes” and “Ka Raffy” was a result of the relentless efforts of the intelligence units of Puerto Princesa City Police Office, in collaboration with the City Intelligence Unit and Police Station 1 under PPCPO; CECU-Puerto Princesa City, Regional Intelligence Unit 4B under PNP-Intelligence Group; Palawan PPO 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company; and Puerto Princesa City Anti-Crime Task Force in coordination with the Kapatiran ng Dating Rebelde (KADRE).
The said former rebels are now under the custody of the Puerto Princesa City Police Office for debriefing before his enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
PCOL BUCAD further revealed that on the same day, the CMFC likewise recovered two (2) Improvised Anti-Personnel Landmines, one (1) rifle grenade (RG), uniforms, and other subversive documents in Sitio Irish, Brgy. Binduyan, of the said city, at around 11:00 AM.
PCOL BUCAD said the recovery was made possible through former NPA members’ information.
The recovered explosives were turned over to Puerto Princesa City Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit for proper custody and disposition.
Records show that PRO MIMAROPA had already facilitated the surrender of 129 former NPA rebels and supporters, as well as the recovery and confiscation of 52 firearms used by communist rebels from January 1 to October 19, 2022.
“This is a product of our commitment through the NTF-ELCAC (National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict) to securing our region against the threat of communist terrorism”, PBGen Hernia said.
“Rest assured that the government will assist them in availing the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, which will help them have a better start with their respective families,” PBGEN HERNIA continued. – RPIO MIMAROPA
