Camp BGen Efigenio C Navarro, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – 26 PNP personnel of Police Regional Office MIMAROPA United Nations veterans were honored as the Philippine National Police commemorated the International UN Peacekeepers during the Traditional Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on May 30, 2022.

PRO MIMAROPA Regional Director Police Brigadier General SIDNEY SULTAN HERNIA, who served as a UN peacekeeper, was awarded a certificate of recognition and eight police colonels; nine police lieutenant colonels; one police captain; one police lieutenant; and five police non-commissioned officers.

PBGEN HERNIA said that the PNP has been sending its peacekeeping contingents to UN peacekeeping operations and missions since 1992 to provide services and assistance.

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, celebrated every 29th day of May, recognizes UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in UN Mission and pays tribute to all the men and women who have been part of the UN Peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication, and courage.

“May this occasion remind us of the bravery of the men and women of the PNP who made sacrifices in a foreign land. I hope that their heroism will set a good example to our personnel to dream to become part of Filipino UN Peacekeepers,” PBGEN HERNIA remarked. – RPIO MIMAROPA
